"Sound Sound Sound", Galeria Metropolitana, Santiago de Chile, 2006
This installation was organized
by a three channel video piece of street musicians, mostly recorded in the New
York City subway system. Around this urban-sound research a series of other
works developed as a way to produce a set up for its presentation. A large curtain
with a geometric design was placed at the entrance of the gallery, it was functional
(making the space darker) and it was also a reference of my own body of work.
At the center of the space I installed a series of wood panels that created
an architectural sculpture, which organized the disposition and perception of
both the video work and a series of drawings (“People I have met in the
subway”, which where replicas of the business cards and personal information
that the musicians provided to me). The video consisted of shots of individual
musicians which projected together created collaborative sound moments. Public
and private spaces where confused, urban and lo-fi human scale architecture
worked together.
